COVID-19 Situation Update – 9.16.2021 (109 New Cases/42 Were School Age.)

The purpose of this is to provide you a Daily COVID Situation Update. 

SHORT VERSION – 9.16.2021

1.  CDC Risk/Threshold Level – ORANGE - HIGHER risk of transmission in schools (3.71)

2.  TSA-I COVID-19 Hospitalization Rate – 14 Day Average (CDC Standard) – 7.14%.

3.  7-Day Rolling Positive Average Rate: 5.69%

4.  There were 109 more total cases reported yesterday, and 109 were reported as “new”.

5.  Percent of 12+ fully vaccinated – 74.7%.  Percent 12+ partially vaccinated – 87.0%.

Vaccination Percentages do NOT include 5-12 Age Bracket Population.

“Herd Immunity” is NOT just a few shots away

6.  38.54% of yesterday’s additional cases were in the 0 to 20 Y.O. age bracket.

7.  Cumulatively, there have been 2,018 (+23) Breakthrough Cases in El Paso County.  There have been 21 (+2) Breakthrough COVID Deaths.  30 (+2) Breakthrough patients went to ICU, 12 (+1) are/were on ventilators.

SCHOOL YEAR 2021/22 CUMULATIVE CASES

As of 9.15.2021 EPISD reports 71 (+6) Staff Cases:  ES - 28, pK-8 – 2, MS - 4, HS - 26, Admin – 8, Other - 3

As of 9.15.2021 EPISD reports 202 (+8) Student Cases:  ES - 103, pK-8 – 6, MS - 26, HS – 63, Other - 4.

NOTE:  The above are confirmed cases of COVID, NOT exposures or quarantines for EPISD.  Lag time from exposure to a confirmed case is a variable, as is parental notification of EPISD of students being confirmed as COVID infected. 

As of 9.12.2021 Canutillo ISD reports 59 (+10) Total Cases.  Staff (7) or Student Cases (52) since 7.26.2021:  ES - 21, MS - 10, HS – 18.

SITUATION.

1.  The Health Department has reported a cumulative total of 143,603 known cases of COVID-19 yesterday (9.15.2021).  109 additional cases were reported, including 109new” COVID-19 cases in EP CountyNo“Delayed” Cases were released by State. 

2.  Seven Day Rolling Positive Average Rate: 

   a.  Today’s rate was 5.69% per the CDC.

   b.  The fourteen-day average of the 7-day rolling average is 6.10% per the CDC.

   c.   Community Transmission in El Paso County remains SUBSTANTIAL, per the CDC (9.16.2021).

 

3.  El Paso R(Retransmission) Rate and Testing.

   a.  The El Paso RRate is 1.01.

   b.  Over 1.00 is bad, under 1.00 is Good, under 0.75 is Better, under 0.50 is Victory.  

   c.  Testing was down last week (23,863 to 22,827) with 654 positives. 

   d.  So far this week, 6,694 tests have been conducted with 378 positives.

4.  COVID Child Cases.  There have been 27,968 cumulative COVID-19 Cases in those under 20 Y.O. as of 9.15.2021. 

     a.  Total number of cumulative cases for school age kids increased by 42, yesterday.

     b.  Pre-teens (Elementary School) amount to 12,740 cases, up 33 cases. 

     c.  Teens accounted for 15,226 cases, up 9 cases.

     d.  Those under 20 Y.O. comprise 19.47% of the county’s total cases. THIS PERCENTAGE HAS STEADILY CLIMBED FROM 9.13% on 7.19.2020.

e.  Those under 20 Y.O. comprise 38.54% of the county’s additional cases, yesterday.  THIS PERCENTAGE HAS AVERAGED 30.81% SINCE 7.1.2021.

5.  Healthcare Readiness.  

     a.  There are 114 El Pasoans hospitalized with COVID (-8).

     b.  44 of 234 El Paso ICU Beds are occupied by COVID-19 patients (+1).  NOTE:  There are 15 Adult open, staffed ICU Beds left in TSA-I (EP, Hudspeth and Culbertson Counties)

     c.   18 are on ventilators. (-1)

     d.  The accurate and honest TSA-I Hospitalization Rate (Staffed Inpatient Beds) is (6.46%).

     e.  The Abbott/Morath rate is 5.76%.  They count “pediatric and adult hospital patients, general and ICU beds, inpatient and outpatient beds, emergency department beds, and telemetry and psychiatric beds”.  (Everything but waiting room chairs)

     f.  El Paso County rate is 5%.  (It is calculated using the Abbott/Morath formula.)

     g.  Three (3) El Pasoans were reported yesterday as having died of COVID-19. Total 2777, with 16 more deaths “Under Review” (-1).

That means two El Paso families lost a loved one to COVID-19 yesterday.
