The purpose of this is to provide you a Daily COVID Situation Update.
SHORT VERSION – 9.18.2021
1. CDC Risk/Threshold Level – ORANGE - HIGHER risk of transmission in schools (3.71)
2. TSA-I COVID-19 Hospitalization Rate – 14 Day Average (CDC Standard) – 7.05%.
3. 7-Day Rolling Positive Average Rate: 6.09%
4. There were 117 more total cases reported yesterday, and 107 were reported as “new”.
5. Percent of 12+ fully vaccinated – 74.9%. Percent 12+ partially vaccinated – 87.2%.
Vaccination Percentages do NOT include 5-12 Age Bracket Population.
“Herd Immunity” is NOT just a few shots away
6. 23.93% of yesterday’s additional cases were in the 0 to 20 Y.O. age bracket.
7. Cumulatively, there have been 2,072 (+28) Breakthrough Cases in El Paso County. There have been 22 (N/C) Breakthrough COVID Deaths. 30 (N/C) Breakthrough patients went to ICU, 12 (N/C) are/were on ventilators.
SCHOOL YEAR 2021/22 CUMULATIVE CASES
As of 9.15.2021 EPISD reports 71 (N/C) Staff Cases: ES - 28, pK-8 – 2, MS - 4, HS - 26, Admin – 8, Other - 3
As of 9.15.2021 EPISD reports 213 (+3) Student Cases: ES - 104, pK-8 – 8, MS - 27, HS – 63, Other - 11.
NOTE: The above are confirmed cases of COVID, NOT exposures or quarantines for EPISD. Lag time from exposure to a confirmed case is a variable, as is parental notification of EPISD of students being confirmed as COVID infected.
As of 9.12.2021 Canutillo ISD reports 59 (+10) Total Cases. Staff (7) or Student Cases (52) since 7.26.2021: ES - 21, MS - 10, HS – 18.
SITUATION.
1. The Health Department has reported a cumulative total of 143,810 known cases of COVID-19 yesterday (9.17.2021). 117 additional cases were reported, including 107 “new” COVID-19 cases in EP County. 10 “Delayed” Cases were released by State.
2. Seven Day Rolling Positive Average Rate:
a. Today’s rate was 5.79% per the CDC
b. The fourteen-day average of the 7-day rolling average is 6.09% per the CDC.
c. Community Transmission in El Paso County remains SUBSTANTIAL, per the CDC (9.18.2021).
3. El Paso Rt (Retransmission) Rate and Testing.
a. The El Paso Rt Rate is 1.01.
b. Over 1.00 is bad, under 1.00 is Good, under 0.75 is Better, under 0.50 is Victory.
c. Testing was down last week (23,865 to 22,867) with 659 positives.
d. So far this week, 9,853 tests have been conducted with 576 positives.
4. COVID Child Cases. There have been 28,026 cumulative COVID-19 Cases in those under 20 Y.O. as of 9.17.2021.
a. Total number of cumulative cases for school age kids increased by 28, yesterday.
b. Pre-teens (Elementary School) amount to 12,772 cases, up 17 cases.
c. Teens accounted for 15,252 cases, up 11 cases.
d. Those under 20 Y.O. comprise 19.49% of the county’s total cases, up from 9.13% on 7.19.2020.
e. Those under 20 Y.O. comprise 23.93% of the county’s additional cases, yesterday. THIS PERCENTAGE HAS AVERAGED 30.76% SINCE 7.1.2021.
5. Healthcare Readiness.
a. There are 111 El Pasoans hospitalized with COVID (-3).
b. 42 of 234 El Paso ICU Beds are occupied by COVID-19 patients (-2). NOTE: There are four (4) Adult open, staffed ICU Beds left in TSA-I (EP, Hudspeth and Culbertson Counties)
c. 20 are on ventilators. (-1)
d. The accurate and honest TSA-I Hospitalization Rate (Staffed Inpatient Beds) is (5.98%).
e. The Abbott/Morath rate is 5.30%. They count “pediatric and adult hospital patients, general and ICU beds, inpatient and outpatient beds, emergency department beds, and telemetry and psychiatric beds”. (Everything but waiting room chairs)
f. El Paso County’s posted rate is 5%. (It is calculated using the Abbott/Morath formula and rounded down.)
g. One (1) El Pasoans were reported yesterday as having died of COVID-19. Total 2779, with 16 more deaths “Under Review” (+1).
That means two El Paso families lost a loved one to COVID-19 yesterday.
