The purpose of this is to provide you a Daily COVID Situation Update.
SHORT VERSION – 9.9.2021
1. CDC Risk/Threshold Level – ORANGE - HIGHER risk of transmission in schools (3.86)
2. TSA-I COVID-19 Hospitalization Rate – 14 Day Average (CDC Standard) – 7.15%.
3. 7-Day Rolling Positive Average Rate: 7.11%
4. There were 119 more total cases reported yesterday, and 109 were reported as “new”.
5. Percent of 12+ fully vaccinated – 74.0%. Percent 12+ partially vaccinated – 86.5%.
6. 25.21% of yesterday’s additional cases were in the 0 to 20 Y.O. age bracket.
7. Cumulatively, there have been 1,836 (+36) Breakthrough Cases in El Paso County. There have been 17 (+1) Breakthrough COVID Deaths. 26 (N/C) Breakthrough patients went to ICU, 10 (N/C) are/were on ventilators.
SCHOOL YEAR 2021/22 CUMULATIVE CASES
As of 9.8.2021 EPISD reports 58 (+1) Staff Cases: ES - 27, pK-8 – 2, MS - 4, HS - 20, Admin – 5
As of 9.8.2021 EPISD reports 180 (+5) Student Cases: ES - 96, pK-8 – 3, MS - 22, HS – 59.
NOTE: The above are confirmed cases of COVID, NOT exposures or quarantines for EPISD. Lag time from exposure to a confirmed case is a variable, as is parental notification of EPISD of students being confirmed as COVID infected.
As of 9.6.2021 Canutillo ISD reports 49 (+4) Total Cases. Staff (7) or Student Cases (42) since 7.26.2021: ES - 21, MS - 10, HS – 18.

SITUATION.
1. The Health Department has reported a cumulative total of 142,897 known cases of COVID-19 yesterday (9.8.2021). 119 additional cases were reported, including 109 “new” COVID-19 cases in EP County. 10“Delayed” Cases were released by State.
2. Seven Day Rolling Positive Average Rate:
a. Today’s rate was 7.11%.
b. The fourteen-day average of the 7-day rolling average is 6.26%.
c. Community Transmission in El Paso County remains SUBSTANTIAL, per the CDC (9.8.2021).
3. El Paso Rt (Retransmission) Rate and Testing.
a. The El Paso Rt Rate is 1.01.
b. Over 1.00 is bad, under 1.00 is Good, under 0.75 is Better, under 0.50 is Victory.
c. Testing was down last week (28,394 down to 23,529) with 674 positives.
d. So far this week, 3,064 tests have been conducted with 359 positives.
4. COVID Child Cases. There have been 27,726 cumulative COVID-19 Cases in those under 20 Y.O. as of 9.7.2021.
a. Total number of cumulative cases for school age kids increased by 30, yesterday.
b. Pre-teens (Elementary School) amount to 12,587 cases, up 19 cases.
c. Teens accounted for 15,139 cases, up 11 cases.
d. Those under 20 Y.O. comprise 19.41% of the county’s total cases. THIS PERCENTAGE HAS STEADILY CLIMBED FROM 9.13% on 7.19.2020.
e. Those under 20 Y.O. comprise 25.21% of the county’s additional cases, yesterday. THIS PERCENTAGE HAS AVERAGED 30.60% SINCE 7.1.2021.
5. Healthcare Readiness.
a. There are 132 El Pasoans hospitalized with COVID (+7).
b. 37 of 234 El Paso ICU Beds are occupied by COVID-19 patients (-1). NOTE: There are three (3) Adult open, staffed ICU Beds left in TSA-I (EP, Hudspeth and Culbertson Counties)
c. 16 are on ventilators. (-1)
d. The accurate and honest TSA-I Hospitalization Rate (Staffed Inpatient Beds) is (7.15%).
e. The Abbott/Morath rate is 6.51%. They count “pediatric and adult hospital patients, general and ICU beds, inpatient and outpatient beds, emergency department beds, and telemetry and psychiatric beds”. (Everything but waiting room chairs)
f. El Paso County rate is 6%. (It is calculated using the Abbott/Morath formula.)
g. One El Pasoan was reported yesterday as having died of COVID-19. Total 2770, with 17 more deaths “Under Review” (+4).
That means five El Paso families lost a loved one to COVID-19 yesterday.
