IMPORTANT EPISD HEALTHCARE UPDATE

The purpose of this is to share with you the details of the new EPISD Self-Funded Insurance Plan (Cygna).  It also details the differences between the savings between TRS AC and Cygna.

SHORT VERSION.  This chart is an abbreviated comparison.  Savings run from $70 to $888 per month, depending on plan (EPISD CDHP or EPISD Traditional PPO) and enrollment category (Employee Only, Employee & Spouse, Employee & Children, or Employee and Family).

EYES ON THE BOARD - 2.12.2019

The purpose of this is to share with you the highlights of last night’s EPISD Board of Trustees meeting. The agenda was relatively benign.

HIGHLIGHTS.

1.    During Public Forum, a Librarian from El Paso HS spoke eloquently to the role and value Librarians have and provide to students and reading.  She then advocated against the $920,419 “Alignment” (cut) in Librarians.

EYES ON THE BOARD - 1.10.2019 (C&I Committee)

The purpose of this is to share with you the events and items of interest at the EPISD Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) Committee on 1.10.2019.  There will be a follow up Email on last Tuesday’s Policy Committee Meeting once the dust settles on two fundamental issues.  Bluntly, I am waiting to see if more reasoned action or inaction occurs.

The purpose of this is to share with you this morning’s EPISD Special Board Meeting (SBM).  This is the SBM where the method of replacing Ms. Byrd for the remaining 28 months of her term was to be decided.  EPISD is now at a critical Decision Point.

EYES ON THE BOARD - 12.6.2018 (Pt 2 - (SBM, Policy and "Costs" are Income)

This is the second part of sharing with you the items of interest from the “Day of Meetings”, December 6th.  This will cover one item of interest from the 8:15 AM Special Board Meeting, one non-item from the 10:30 Policy Committee Meeting and a discussion of the Special Education Presentation during the Curriculum and Instruction Committee.  The last will be a discussion of why Up is Down, Left is Right and East is West in EPISD SpEd Department.

EYES ON THE BOARD - 12.6.2018 (Pt 1 - Closure Workshop)

The purpose of this is to update you on ‘The Day of Meetings’.  Yesterday, December 6th, was ‘The Day of Meetings’ with three Board meetings, one Board Closure Workshop, a Consultation President’s Meeting, and the Citizen Bond Advisory Committee.  And, that doesn’t include sidebars, as well as a call with AFT National about our upcoming EPISD School Board Elections.

EPISD Board School Closure Workshop - 12.6.2018

The purpose of this is advise you of the upcoming EPISD Board Facilities Workshop.  It is the workshop that the Trustees will revisit school closures for 2019/2020.

It is scheduled for Thursday, December 6th, at 8:30 AM at EdCenter Boeing.  Based on the start of next Board meeting scheduled for that morning, it scheduled to last two (2) hours.  

Its purpose is:  “To discuss possible options for school closures, including proposed changes to the attendance zones in an effort to right-size the District and ensure programmatic efficiencies.”

EYES ON THE BOARD - 11.13.2018 - Special Education

The purpose of this is to share with you the words spoken Tuesday, by Sheri Reiter, EP AFT Legal Defense VP and SPEDster during Public Forum.  Special Education has been, and still is a focus area for EP AFT.  We have been advocating since 2015 for:

1.    Special Needs students receiving the services and support they need to succeed.
